After Marcello lippi now it’s Fabio Copello’s turn for some serious confessions. His tactics failed like hell in South Africa. The English team is out of the world cup at second stage. They lost to comparatively young Germany. What really went wrong?
If said it was bad luck as legend David beckham and Michel owen were injured. With added to the continuation of bad luck newly appointed caption rio Ferdinand was out of tournament before it gets kicked off, but these injuries are part and partial of the game. Managers are needed to keep track on them and make sure these injuries must not hamper the campaign. May be Fabio copello was just over confident.
Was it poor team selection?
Probably yes. Young player like Theo Walcott was back in north London and didn’t even make a place in the team. Why hotspurs midfielder Jenas was out of the team? Jenas may have complimented frank lampard and Steven Gerrard in midfield. Theo Walcott was a potential replacement for injured Michel Owen.
Was it poor morale?
Yes. After the saga of Wayne Bridge and John Terry England manager’s job was to keep both the players in team. He must have convinced Wayne Bridge that he was needed for his country. People don’t forget Wayne is great defender and adds potential attacking option. Wayne sometimes your country comes way ahead your personal matters. You must have believed your friend more than media.
Captainship issues?
Well John Terry proved his leadership skills by giving Chelsea the double win this year. Throughout the year Chelsea played like champions under his leadership. Where was Steven Gerrard? Liverpool even couldn’t manage to gain a spot in Europa league too. Really don’t know what was wrong with Fabio coppelo to steal the armband of the John Terry and give it to Steven Gerrard?
Bench wormers?
Joe Cole, Wright-Phillips, Aaron Lennon, Defoe, crouch great capacity players on bench. And they remained on bench only. Why these players didn’t make on ground than just cheering from bench. Why half fit player like Milner was played so much. What was manager’s idea to use Second goalkeeper while he had his first goalkeeper fit? Why heskey was playing when he was doing nothing than watching the ball?
And At the end of the saga Stars didn’t shine……
Steven Gerrard had a cracking start to campaign by scoring on 5th minute of his play. After that he made seldom attempts. Though he had decent tournament but as a captain he was needed to lead from the front. Stars like Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney just failed to show their impact. They were just outplayed by their so called inexperienced opponents. At the back field It was decent show yet JT made a mistake or two. Yet at times he proved he is the best center back. Ashley Cole also proved he is best at left defense.
